If you’ve been on this website before, you know I love me some good Transformers artwork…
…especially when that Transformers Art ticks a few boxes:
- It’s Generation One based (personal preference)
- It has a dramatic sense of photo-realism to it
- It looks powerful and striking
It doesn’t hurt when you see some of the best Transformers figures being used by fans to achieve this. While I love comic and hand drawn art also, I really love this – which is why I personally love creating that style of artwork.
So the other day I was scrolling through Instagram and was floored by the quality and stunning nature of this piece of Transformers Art by Jeff Madison’s MADformers profile:
There’s a dark sense of realism, a gritty nature and a sign of expertise behind the camera and Photoshop to create something like this. But upon further investigation I noticed he was custom painting these figures too!
He’s basically customizing figures and creating impressive artwork out of them. Here’s an example using Devastator that is quite impressive:
Then Jeff added some photos from actual construction equipment and came up with this mammoth image!
There’s a lot more of Devastator in this Facebook post.
I was pretty keen to show Jeff’s art off a bit more so I reached out to him to see if he’d let me feature his work here. So below is a selection of his work!
If you like MADformers, follow Jeff on social media for a lot more than what I have here, this guy is constantly producing killer Transformers Art 🙂

A look at MADformers Art!
Here’s a look at a few select pieces by Jeff. I can’t put everything here so remember to check him out on social media for more 🙂
You’ll find some of my personal choices here, but this is far from everything!
Much like the image I put at the top of this post, here’s the top Decepticon Trio using Masterpiece and Siege figures for Megatron (Siege), Soundwave (MP KO) and Starscream (Siege). The explosion adds some energy to it!
Although there’s plenty more of Soundwave to go around too with these awesome pics! I love the backdrop and animated feel you get of laser beak ejecting and flying past…
Much like above, we focus a bit more on Soundwave himself, with that awesome smoke effect being replicated in the background!
Throw in some Autobots like Cliffjumper and Ironhide for good measure! Followed by a few more Decepticons. Again the use of smoke, a strong color profile, small bits of glowing light and some very subtle texturing overlaid give the image a cool look that just set this off!
Check out the additional glow on Chromia!
I’m loving this piece of Blitzwing fighting off Tracks and Prowl! The light scratches over the pic id a nice touch!
Who could forget the Seekers! These pics are absolutely amazing!
Top it off with a custom painted Bumblebee movie Optimus Prime, that looks a hell of a lot like the actual CGI model used in the film or some kind of highly detailed masterpiece figure. Again, there’s more of this figure on Facebook!
A personal favorite of mine is Omega Supreme, check out his custom paint job followed by a Photoshop image. That rustic, aged robot look tells a bit of a story!
Finally, here’s a look at how it’s done!
Using Megatron, Jeff showcases some of his transformation process below (pun intended lol). Starting with the original Transformers figure…
Megatron is pulled to bits in preparation to be painted.
Jeff starts Airbrushing, you can see how striking the results are early on with highly reflective steel, with some wear and tear and very fine detail and color to break each part of the arm up.
Then afterward there’s a little photography, mix in a bit of time on Photoshop and you get a stunning pic like this:
Pretty awesome artwork, am I right? There’s truly a diverse range of skills and hours behind a brush and computer to able to pull this off!
It doesn’t end there!
I hope you enjoyed that post, but remember Jeff as a heap more artwork on his MADformers social media profiles, along with videos and bit of a breakdown. So check him out for more!

Thanks for dropping by! Have an awesome day and we’ll see you again soon 🙂
Awesome, would love to see more about the customising of the toys.
Awesome, I’ll have to tell Jeff – I don’t do it myself but he’s pretty god with the custom painting 🙂
